His Royal Highness kicked off the day at St Michael’s Church of England High School in Sandwell, where he got acquainted with the award-winning initiatives led by students to maintain mental well-being among the pupils.
The Prince of Wales had initially been invited to the school by a letter from twelve-year-old student Freddie Hadley last October.
Although he couldn't make it at the time, His Royal Highness responded to the letter on World Mental Health Day and surprised Freddie and his peers by acknowledging their efforts to address mental health issues faced by students.
St.
Michael’s follows a comprehensive approach to mental health and well-being termed the "whole school" approach, which includes initiatives like the student-led ‘Student Voice’ group established in 2012.
This group, consisting of up to 100 students, works collectively on a variety of initiatives from fundraising to engaging with older members of the community.
Later, The Prince of Wales visited Woodgate Valley Urban Farm, a facility dedicated to assisting children and young individuals struggling with educational access and mental health challenges.
During his visit, His Royal Highness interacted with the staff and volunteers at the extensive six-acre site, which encompasses the farm, woodlands, and orchards.
He was briefed about the therapeutic programs offered to children, including the care of various animals housed at Woodgate Valley.
The final stop on his tour was in Aston, where The Prince of Wales inaugurated a new center for employment skills training and community outreach established by Betel UK, a charity supporting individuals affected by homelessness and addiction.
In 2018, The Prince and Princess of Wales had visited one of Betel’s cafes at Coventry Cathedral.
Today, Prince of Wales visited the unique facility named Anchor Point, where he listened to the stories of individuals who have benefited from Betel's support on their path to recovery and employment.
He also toured the six social enterprises housed within the center, such as a café, theater, and beauty salon that provide work opportunities and training to those overcoming substance addiction.
