In partnership with Libraries for Primaries, the National Literacy Trust has established 50 Coronation libraries and reading spaces throughout the UK since 2023, with the 50th library being inaugurated at Moreland Primary School by Her Majesty.
Each of these 50 libraries is also gifted a collection of 23 books, selected by children from various regions of the country, adorned with a special bookplate featuring the Coronation emblem.
Additionally, a special plaque is installed in each library to mark the occasion.
The National Literacy Trust is dedicated to equipping children, young people, and adults with the literacy skills necessary for success.
Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening provides individuals with the tools to make the most of their lives and shape their futures.
For more than three decades, the National Literacy Trust has been supporting schools, families, and communities both locally and nationally, helping individuals rewrite their stories.
The latest library at Moreland Primary School also marks the milestone of being the 1000th primary school library opened as part of the National Literacy Trust’s Libraries for Primaries campaign, which seeks to establish libraries in primary schools across the UK, especially in areas where literacy levels are low.
During today's visit, Her Majesty The Queen participated in an interactive storytelling session with young librarians from primary schools across the city, inaugurated the new library, and listened to a poem titled 'One Thousand Libraries' written for the occasion by Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho.
