Created in collaboration with Libraries for Primaries by the National Literacy Trust, 50 Coronation libraries and reading spaces have been established throughout the UK since 2023, culminating in the opening of the 50th library by the Queen at Moreland Primary School.
Each of the 50 libraries is furnished with a curated set of 23 books, selected by children nationwide, adorned with a special bookplate featuring the Coronation emblem.
Furthermore, a commemorative plaque is displayed in every library as a testament to this initiative.
The National Literacy Trust is committed to equipping individuals of all ages with the essential literacy skills necessary for success.
Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening empowers individuals to realize their full potential and shape their own destinies.
For over three decades, the National Literacy Trust has been actively supporting schools, families, and communities at both local and national levels, empowering individuals to rewrite their stories.
The inauguration of the new library at Moreland Primary School marks a milestone as the 1000th primary school library established under the Libraries for Primaries campaign, which strives to bring libraries to primary schools in areas with low literacy rates across the UK.
During Her Majesty's recent visit, Queen Elizabeth participated in an engaging storytelling session with young librarians from various primary schools in the city before officially unveiling the new library.
She also enjoyed a reading of a poem titled 'One Thousand Libraries' by Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho, specially penned for the occasion.
