Both Tony and Lyla were unable to attend a previous formal garden party on May 8, 2024, Tony due to traffic and Lyla due to ill health.
When Tony's family expressed his disappointment about missing the event on social media, The Royal Family account responded, offering the opportunity to try again another day.
Upon their arrival at Buckingham Palace, both children and their families enjoyed watching the Changing of the Guard from inside the forecourt before meeting Her Majesty for a private tea party in the Summer House within the garden.
A variety of refreshments were served, including sandwiches, scones, and King’s Guard-designed iced biscuits, while The Rifles Band played musical selections.
During the event, Her Majesty presented Tony Hudgell with his British Empire Medal [BEM], which he was awarded for his contributions to preventing child abuse.
Tony, who co-founded the Tony Hudgell Foundation, had received the BEM as the youngest-ever recipient in the New Year Honours in December.
After the Queen's departure, both children were treated to a private tour of the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace.
Lyla O'Donovan expressed her gratitude for the special treatment during the event and thanked everyone involved for making her feel special.
Tony's mother, Paula Hudgell, shared their family's honor and gratitude for being invited to the palace, describing the experience as a dream come true and highlighting the proud moment when The Queen presented the BEM to Tony.
