The King's Message on N.A.T.O.'s 75th Founding Anniversary

Dear Secretary General, It has been seventy-five years since twelve countries gathered in Washington, D.

C.

, to establish a defensive Alliance aimed at putting an end to the years of war in Europe and symbolizing the enduring bond between Europe and North America.

The United Kingdom's signing of the Washington Treaty symbolizes our unwavering commitment to NATO as the foundation of our security and the cherished values we uphold.

As we extend a warm welcome to the citizens of Sweden and Finland under NATO's protection, our hearts go out to the Ukrainian people.

In the face of an unjust invasion, NATO has stood firmly by Ukraine in its brave fight for sovereignty.

The United Kingdom has been a steadfast partner since the beginning.

While NATO's headquarters has shifted from Belgrave Square in London to the streets of Paris and now to Brussels, its core mission remains intact: safeguarding the one billion citizens of our NATO Allies.

This essential Alliance continues to thrive and evolve to tackle new threats and challenges.

As someone born just six months before NATO's establishment, I want to personally express my gratitude and congratulations to NATO on its seventy-fifth anniversary.

This milestone is a moment of celebration and a testament to NATO's founding principle of upholding peace and security.
