Established in April 2012, the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre offers comprehensive services for diagnosing and treating various cancer and non-cancer conditions, while also providing essential support to patients and their families.
In 1997, as Prince of Wales, His Majesty The King became the Patron of Macmillan Cancer Support, an organization that offers a wide range of assistance to individuals living with cancer and advocates for improved cancer care.
During the visit, The King assumed the role of Patron of Cancer Research UK, previously held by the late Queen.
He met with Cancer Research UK’s Chief Clinician, Professor Charlie Swanton, who leads the TRACERx project – a collaborative effort involving 250 researchers and clinicians from 19 UK centers.
TRACERx, the largest investment in lung cancer research by Cancer Research UK, aims to study the evolution of lung cancer over time and understand why treatments may become ineffective.
The royal couple also spent time engaging with patients undergoing cancer treatment and their families during their visit.
