The International Award brings the Duke of Edinburgh to Uganda

The Duke arrived in Kampala on Monday for a three-day visit in connection with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Uganda.

His Royal Highness engaged with students involved in the global Non-Formal Education and Learning program and participated in an Award in Action excursion to a Wildlife Education Centre, where Award participants volunteer.

Together with the State of Foreign Affairs, The Duke attended the Award’s Africa regional conference to emphasize the crucial role Non-Formal Education and Learning can have on a young person’s growth and to discuss the sustainability of the Award in the Africa region.

The Duke also had a meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, during which The President officially assumed the role of Patron to the Award in Uganda.

Throughout his visit, His Royal Highness interacted with various Ugandan youth leaders who discussed their positive contributions to society in the fields of climate change, IT, women's empowerment, and entrepreneurship.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Uganda, serves as a framework for Non-Formal Education and Learning that inspires young individuals to discover their purpose, passions, and role in the world.

Presently, it reaches over 6000 young people throughout the country.
