The Dyson Cancer Centre in Bath inaugurated by the Queen

The new Dyson Cancer Centre at The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust was officially inaugurated and toured by Her Majesty, the Queen.

During her visit, she engaged with clinical staff and patients undergoing treatment in the Medlock Unit, which houses the Chemotherapy and Day Unit.

Serving over 500,000 individuals in the South West, The Royal United Hospital stands as one of the largest cancer care facilities in the region.

The recently established Dyson Cancer Centre consolidates a wide range of services provided by the hospital, including a research hub, chemotherapy and radiotherapy units, a 22-bed in-patient ward, a specialized pharmacy, and nuclear medicine and physics teams.

The construction of this center commenced in 2021 following generous donations exceeding £10 million from more than 11,000 contributors.

Additional government funding of £40 million supported its development, and it commenced operations in April of the current year.

During her time at the facility, Her Majesty visited the Macmillan Wellbeing Hub, a serene environment that offers practical and emotional support to patients, families, and caregivers, where she interacted with patients to understand the assistance they have received.

Subsequently, after touring the William Budd inpatient ward and conversing with both patients and clinical staff, The Queen participated in a reception held in the Main Atrium, where she engaged with the construction team, supporters, and other staff members involved in the project.

Prior to her departure, The Queen conducted the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, officially marking the opening of the Dyson Cancer Centre.
