The Duke of Edinburgh Embarks on a Visit to Uganda with the International Award

The Duke arrived in Kampala on Monday for a three-day visit with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Uganda.

His Royal Highness engaged with students involved in the global Non-Formal Education and Learning program and participated in an Award in Action trip to a Wildlife Education Centre where participants had been volunteering.

He, alongside the State of Foreign Affairs, attended the Award’s Africa regional conference to emphasize the crucial role Non-Formal Education and Learning can play in a young person’s development and to discuss the sustainability of the Award in the Africa region.

In addition, The Duke met with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, who officially accepted the role of Patron to the Award in Uganda.

During his visit, His Royal Highness interacted with several Ugandan youth leaders who shared their impactful contributions to society in areas such as climate action, technology, women's empowerment, and entrepreneurship.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Uganda, serves as a Non-Formal Education and Learning framework that encourages young individuals to discover their purpose, passion, and role in the world.

Currently, the program reaches over 6000 young people throughout the country.
