The Duke of Cornwall Visits his Namesake Region, Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly

The Duke of Cornwall recently visited Nansledan in Newquay, where The Duchy of Cornwall is set to embark on its first-ever groundbreaking housing project aimed at addressing homelessness.

Afterward, he made a stop at Fistral Beach to engage with local organizations dedicated to ensuring the safety of beachgoers.

This visit marked the Duke's inaugural official trip to the Isles of Scilly since assuming the title in September 2022.

During his time on St.

Mary’s, he met with representatives from local businesses and visited the St.

Mary’s Medical Centre.

The innovative housing project, a collaboration with Cornish charity St Petrocs, will see the construction of 24 homes with comprehensive support services for individuals experiencing homelessness.

The homes will be built to Passivhaus standards, emphasizing energy efficiency and sustainability.

Construction on the project is scheduled to commence in September 2024, with the first homes expected to be ready by autumn 2025.

The initial phase will focus on providing quality temporary accommodations while facilitating pathways to more permanent housing solutions.

Following his visit to Nansledan, the Duke traveled to Fistral Beach to confer with local entities dedicated to beach safety, particularly as the summer season approaches.

He interacted with Surf Life Saving Clubs and RNLI representatives involved in water safety and rescue operations.

On the following day, the Duke visited St.

Mary’s Harbour on the Isles of Scilly, meeting with local businesses and observing the vital operations of the harbor, crucial for maritime activities and tourism across the islands.

He then proceeded to St.

Mary’s Community Hospital, where discussions centered on plans for a new integrated health and social care facility on adjacent land owned by The Duchy of Cornwall.

The facility aims to enhance healthcare provision for island residents and visitors, reflecting the ongoing partnership between the Duchy of Cornwall and local stakeholders on the Isles of Scilly.
