The meeting took place at Clarence House.
The 2023-24 Ocean Globe Race (OGR) is a retro race that is fully crewed, inspired by the 1973 Whitbread Round the World Race and commemorating its 50th anniversary.
The competition involves sailing without the aid of computers, GPS, or high-tech materials, relying on sextants and paper charts for navigation.
Fourteen boats embarked on the 27,000-nautical-mile journey in the 2023-24 Ocean Globe Race, covering four legs with stops in South Africa, New Zealand, and Uruguay, starting and finishing in the UK and passing three great Capes.
This edition of the race marks the 50th anniversary of the inaugural Whitbread Round the World Race.
Thirty years ago, skipper Tracy Edwards MBE and her all-female crew achieved a remarkable feat in the 1989/90 Whitbread Round the World Race, finishing in second place and clinching victory in two out of six legs aboard the 58ft Maiden yacht.
They made history as the first all-female team to compete in an around-the-world yacht race.
In 2018, the Maiden yacht was repurposed for a global voyage aimed at raising awareness and funds for girls' education.
Prior to its voyage, The King and Queen, The Prince of Wales, and The Duchess of Cornwall visited the renovated boat along with HRH Princess Haya, who facilitated the refurbishment.
In September 2023, Tracy Edwards spearheaded Maiden's participation in the Ocean Globe Race with the most diverse professional sailing crew ever assembled for a global journey.
The crew, comprising members from the UK, Antigua, USA, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Italy, France, and Afghanistan, included the first black female crew and the first Middle Eastern female crew to sail around the world, showcasing and celebrating the diverse cultures, traditions, and beliefs they encountered on their 28,000-mile endeavor.
Maiden etched their names in history this month by becoming the first all-female team to secure victory in an around-the-world yacht race after more than 153 days at sea.
Before embarking on the Ocean Globe Race in September 2023, The Queen conveyed a message of support and well-wishes to the crew: "You are all in my thoughts today as you set forth on Maiden's final race in the Ocean Globe Race.
I hope each one of you takes pride in being part of this special crew that spreads Messages of Hope to girls worldwide.
May you have favorable winds and safe passage!" Camilla R.
