Somerset Welcomes a Visit from the Duchess of Edinburgh

The Duchess of Edinburgh, as the Patron of the Association of Show and Agricultural Organisations, participated in the Field to Food Learning Day 2024 at the Bath and West Showground in Somerset.

This event, which aims to educate the younger generation about farming and food production, plays a crucial role in informing and enlightening young consumers about the origins of their food and the efforts of farmers in providing high-quality British produce.

During her visit, The Duchess engaged in various educational activities under the theme of 'plough to plate,' delving into topics such as livestock, arable farming, horticulture, food, and machinery.

Subsequently, Her Royal Highness explored Hazel Manor and the Yeo Valley Organic Garden in North Somerset, where she learned about initiatives that promote sustainable farming and gardening practices.

Yeo Valley Organic, renowned as Britain’s largest organic dairy brand and a significant player in the UK grocery and yogurt market, showcased several regenerative organic farming projects, including mob grazing and agroforestry, implemented across their farms.

Concluding her visit, The Duchess toured the Yeo Valley Organic Garden alongside Head Gardener Sarah Mead and Yeo Valley co-founder Mary Mead OBE.

This Soil Association-certified ornamental garden, which served as the inspiration for the award-winning 2021 Autumnal Chelsea Flower Show exhibit, received accolades such as an RHS Gold Medal and the BBC's People's Choice Award.
