Revealing the New Governor-General of Australia

At the recommendation of Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Anthony Albanese, His Majesty The King has approved the appointment of Ms Samantha Mostyn AO as the Governor-General Designate of the Commonwealth of Australia.

Ms Mostyn will be succeeding His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) and will officially become Australia’s 28th Governor-General after being sworn in on 1 July 2024.

Serving as the representative of The King in Australia, the Governor-General holds office at His Majesty's pleasure, with a customary term of five years in Australia.

The current Governor-General, General the Honourable David Hurley, will complete his term on 1 July 2024.

Ms Mostyn is widely recognized for her outstanding contributions to the Australian community, having held various executive and governance positions in different sectors.
