Established in April 2012, the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre was designed to cater to a spectrum of cancer and non-cancer conditions, offering diagnostic and treatment services while extending support to patients and their loved ones.
In 1997, His Majesty The King, then Prince of Wales, assumed the role of Patron for Macmillan Cancer Support, an organization dedicated to providing comprehensive assistance to individuals battling cancer and advocating for enhanced cancer care.
During the visit, His Majesty also took on the role of the new Patron of Cancer Research UK, previously held by the late Queen.
The King met with Cancer Research UK’s Chief Clinician, Professor Charlie Swanton, who spearheaded the TRACERx project, a collaborative effort involving 250 researchers and clinicians from 19 UK-based centers, which represents Cancer Research UK’s largest investment in lung cancer research.
The initiative aims to delve into the evolution of lung cancer over time and the reasons behind treatment resistance.
Subsequently, The King and Queen interacted with cancer patients undergoing treatment and their families, displaying their support and empathy towards those affected by the disease.
