City status was bestowed upon Douglas in May 2022 in honor of the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The city has served as the capital of the Isle of Man since 1896 and is renowned for housing the Manx Parliament, Tynwald, known as the oldest continuous parliament globally.
Following the ceremony, Her Majesty proceeded to Government House, where she engaged with the Chief Minister, The Honourable Alfred Cannan.
Welcoming groups at the event included members from the RNLI and the Manx Bluetits swimming club.
Douglas holds historical significance as the birthplace of the RNLI, which commemorates its bicentenary in 2024.
Two centuries ago, Sir William Hilary, a former resident of Douglas, witnessed multiple shipwrecks along the Manx coast, leading to the establishment of a national organization dedicated to safeguarding and rescuing lives at sea.
During the visit, The Queen interacted with representatives from Isle of Man charities dedicated to environmental conservation and cancer care initiatives.
