Assessment of Royal Patronages

The King and Queen will uphold their roles as Patrons for many of the charities and institutions that His Majesty was associated with as the Prince of Wales, and respectively Her Majesty as the Duchess of Cornwall.

Furthermore, Their Majesties are pleased to continue supporting a diverse array of charities and organizations, many of which were previously backed by Queen Elizabeth II.

Other members of the Royal Family will also assume patronage of several organizations previously supported by the late Queen to expand their existing portfolios.

Background: Members of the Royal Family take great pride in maintaining close ties with over 1,000 charities, military organizations, as well as professional and public service bodies in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth.

These organizations, whether widely recognized or smaller entities focusing on specialized or local causes, benefit from royal patronage by gaining visibility and recognition for their valuable contributions to society.

Out of the 800+ organizations retained by Their Majesties and other members of the Royal Family, The King will maintain his enduring involvement with the Royal British Legion as its Patron, a role held by Queen Elizabeth II since her Accession in 1952.

Additionally, His Majesty will uphold patronages including the Wildlife Trusts, focused on grassroots nature conservation; the Youth United Foundation, facilitating collaboration among uniformed youth organizations; and the Heritage Crafts Association, dedicated to preserving traditional heritage crafts.

The King will continue his patronage of the Commonwealth Forestry Association, advocating for the sustainable management of forests globally.

His Majesty will also become Patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society, committed to enhancing the lives of citizens across the Commonwealth, and of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, promoting the transformative power of higher education.

Among the retained charities of Queen Elizabeth II, Her Majesty will become Patron of the Royal Literary Fund and the Royal Academy of Dance, with additional roles with the Royal Voluntary Service and as the President of the Sandringham branch of the Women's Institute.

Other organizations across the United Kingdom where patronages will be assumed or retained include Welsh National Opera, the Army Benevolent Fund, and the Jockey Club, reflecting the widespread charitable interests supported by the Royal Family.

The extensive review of patronages followed His Majesty's Accession and encompassed the organizations which Queen Elizabeth II supported as Patron, along with those with which The King and Queen were previously affiliated in their roles as the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

A subsequent review will assess the patronages in the other fourteen Commonwealth Realms where His Majesty is the Head of State.

Key statistics from the review indicate the number of organizations previously affiliated with Queen Elizabeth II, His Majesty as the Prince of Wales, and Her Majesty as the Duchess of Cornwall, and their allocation or retention among the Royal Family members.

The patronages span a wide range of interests, from arts and culture to education, conservation, and social welfare, showcasing the Royal Family's commitment to diverse charitable causes both nationally and internationally.
