Assessment of Royal Patronages

The King and Queen will continue to serve as Patrons to many of the charities and institutions with which His Majesty was associated as Prince of Wales, and Her Majesty as Duchess of Cornwall.

Additionally, Their Majesties are pleased to continue patronage of numerous charities and organizations previously supported by Queen Elizabeth II.

Other Members of The Royal Family will also take on the patronage of several organizations formerly supported by The late Queen, in addition to their existing portfolios.

Background: Members of the Royal Family proudly maintain close associations with over 1,000 charities, military organizations, and professional and public service bodies, both in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth.

These organizations include well-known entities and smaller bodies working in specialized areas or at a local level only.

Royal patronage helps to highlight the crucial work of these organizations and ensure their valuable contributions to society are more widely recognized and promoted.

Among the 800 organizations retained by Their Majesties and Members of The Royal Family, The King will continue his longstanding involvement with the Royal British Legion as Patron, a role held by Queen Elizabeth II throughout her reign since 1952.

His Majesty will retain patronages related to supporting communities, conservation, and culture, including organizations such as the Wildlife Trusts, the Youth United Foundation, and the Heritage Crafts Association.

In addition, The King will continue his patronage of the Commonwealth Forestry Association and become Patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Within Queen Elizabeth II's retained charities, The Queen will become Patron of organizations such as the Royal Literary Fund, the Royal Academy of Dance, the Royal Voluntary Service, and the Sandringham branch of the Women’s Institute.

The extensive review of patronages began following His Majesty’s accession, covering organizations of which Queen Elizabeth II was a Patron and those to which The King and Queen were connected through Patronage or Presidency as The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

A further review will be conducted to assess the patronages held throughout the other fourteen Commonwealth Realms where His Majesty is the Head of State.

Number of patronages held by Queen Elizabeth II: At the time of her passing, The late Queen was Patron of 492 organizations.

376 of these organizations are to be retained by Their Majesties or other Members of The Royal Family.

Number of patronages held by His Majesty as Prince of Wales: The review included 441 organizations affiliated with The King as Prince of Wales.

Of these, 367 have been retained by His Majesty or passed to other Members of The Royal Family.

Number of patronages held by Her Majesty as Duchess of Cornwall: The review encompassed 100 organizations affiliated with The Queen as Duchess of Cornwall.

91 of these have been retained or transferred to other Members of The Royal Family.

The article also includes details about various organizations and the patronages being continued or assumed by members of The Royal Family, such as the Army Benevolent Fund, the Commonwealth Forestry Association, Dogs Trust, the Jockey Club, the Royal Academy of Dance, the Royal British Legion, and many others.

Additionally, statements from representatives of these organizations expressing gratitude and excitement for the continued royal patronage are included, demonstrating the significant impact these partnerships have on their respective causes and missions.
