A speech by The King commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Senedd.

Presiding Officer, First Minister, Members of the Welsh Parliament, nobles and ladies.

The Queen and I are thrilled to be here today to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Welsh devolution, a significant milestone in our history.

Throughout my life, I have had the privilege of sharing this journey with you, witnessing great changes, sorrows, and achievements.

My admiration and fondness for the people of this ancient land have only deepened over the years.

It is an honor to share your love for this extraordinary country.

I am delighted to see my son's ongoing connection with this land, including his recent visit to Anglesey - Ynys Môn, a place of great significance to him.

As we reflect on the past twenty-five years and the history we have shared, I join you in acknowledging the responsibility you hold in shaping the future in this Senedd.

When the National Assembly for Wales was established in 1999, we could not predict the road ahead.

However, we trusted in the common goal of promoting the well-being of the people of Wales to guide the establishment and development of this new national institution.

Looking back at the progress made since then, I hope you take pride in the respect earned and the impact on many lives.

Welsh issues have been at the forefront, and the unique voice of Wales is now heard clearly and purposefully.

We reflect on the journey so far and eagerly anticipate the path ahead.

A parliament would not be complete without differing opinions, but it is commendable how these differences are managed with inclusivity and respect for various ways of serving the country.

You have a diverse and rich country to serve, a unique blend of landscapes and cultures from Anglesey to Monmouth, from Caergybi to Cardiff Bay, encompassing numerous communities urban and rural, each with its own complexities.

It is indeed heartening to see the Senedd embracing the Welsh language.

It is not merely symbolic but an essential aspect - the best way to demonstrate honor is through use.

Over the past twenty-five years, the Senedd has transitioned from a symbol to an integral part of Welsh life.

Congratulations on all your achievements during this period of our history.

As we set our sights on the challenges of the next twenty-five years, particularly the shared responsibility of caring for our planet, I applaud your energy and determination in facing these challenges.

Though many milestones lie ahead, remember that you are not alone.

The resilience and aspirations of the Welsh people will support you, and you have the goodwill and backing of those who hold Wales' interests dear.

Together, you can overcome any obstacle and find reasons for celebration.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
