2024's Regal Week

Referred to as 'Royal Week' in Scotland and 'Holyrood Week' elsewhere, this special week is a time to honor Scottish culture, achievements, and community.

The traditional Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse kicks off Royal Week, symbolizing the official welcome of The King into Edinburgh by the Lord Provost through the symbolic offering of the city's keys.

The festivities continue with The King meeting Service Chiefs, receiving a Royal Salute, and inspecting the Balaklava Company, 5 SCOTS Guard of Honour.

An Investiture and a reception hosted by The Queen celebrating Scottish literacy follow, with Her Majesty emphasizing the importance of promoting reading and literacy.

At a Garden Party later on, guests who have made significant contributions to Scottish life enjoy the beautiful palace grounds along with music from regimental bands and The Royal Scottish Pipers Society.

The Royal Company of Archers, the King's official Scottish bodyguards since 1822, are also present, ensuring the safety of the royal family.

The day progresses with attendance at the Thistle Service and the installation of new members to the Order of the Thistle at St.

Giles' Cathedral.

This ancient and prestigious order recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to national life in Scotland.

A celebration marking the 900th anniversary of the City of Edinburgh is held at Edinburgh Castle, where The King and Queen witness a diverse display of Edinburgh’s cultural offerings.

Various organizations showcase their work, including Dance Base, The Hub charity, local delis, and young participants from The Prince’s Trust.

The festivities culminate with The King and Queen cutting a cake baked by 2020 Great British Bake Off winner, Peter Sawkins, marking the end of a joyous and culturally rich week of celebrations.
