The Palace of Holyroodhouse witnessed the time-honored Ceremony of the Keys, which signifies the commencement of Royal Week.
During this event, the Lord Provost presents the keys of Edinburgh to The King, symbolizing his official welcome into his "ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland.
" As part of the festivities, The King engaged in various activities such as meeting with Service Chiefs, receiving a Royal Salute, and inspecting the Balaklava Company, 5 SCOTS Guard of Honour.
Meanwhile, The Queen hosted a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to honor individuals dedicated to promoting Scottish literacy.
Known for her passion for reading, Her Majesty has been a staunch advocate for literacy both within the UK and globally.
The royal couple also interacted with representatives from the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Scottish Book Trust, organizations that strive to encourage reading for enhancing creativity, employment opportunities, and mental well-being.
In another gathering, The King and Queen, accompanied by The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, played host to guests at a Garden Party, recognizing their significant contributions to Scottish society amidst musical performances.
The day continued with The King, The Duke of Rothesay, and The Duchess of Edinburgh participating in the Thistle Service at St Giles’ Cathedral, where new members were invested into The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Scotland's premier chivalric order.
The King, as the Sovereign of the Order, presides over appointments made in acknowledgment of outstanding contributions to public service.
In a celebration marking the 900th anniversary of the City of Edinburgh at Edinburgh Castle, Their Majesties engaged with local organizations showcasing diverse aspects of Edinburgh, including dance, music, gastronomy, design, and charitable initiatives.
