2024 Garter Day Celebrations at Windsor Castle

Today, the King, Queen, and Royal Family are gathered at Windsor Castle to participate in a Garter Day service and ceremony.

The Order of the Garter, Britain's oldest and most prestigious Order of Chivalry, was founded by King Edward III almost 700 years ago.

Inspired by the tales of King Arthur and the chivalrous Knights of the Round Table, Edward III established his own group of esteemed knights.

A service honoring the Most Noble Order of the Garter was conducted at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

The installation of new Companions of the Order took place during this ceremony.

The investiture of new members to "The Garter" occurred in the Garter Throne Room, where The Duchess of Gloucester and three new Companions to the Order of the Garter were invested.

These included Air Chief Marshal the Lord Peach, The Right Honourable the Lord Kakkar, and The Lord Lloyd-Webber.

Additionally, the Duchess of Gloucester was appointed as the Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
